Her to Him is a sculptural poem which reveals two perspectives defining the one relationship fractured by drug abuse and domestic violence. By arranging common words of a vintage game into new meanings, Her to Him explores the reality of domestic violence where all players can only loose.
Her want
for him
was love
on hate,
his show
of hand
which part
her heart
to stop
and ask
and cut bare
like water
but never
quite as clean.
And when
she held her face
she felt a girl
short of whole
or wife
so to live
from now
is why
she ran
with case
and box
and baby.
***
A clean laugh
and fine blue work
outran his arm,
love or devil.
To live and let hate
left him hard,
so hard,
with love
that took
its time.
Where some saw bad
she saw his next
clean start
turn both cold
and human,
which took
he to we,
us to them,
and to stop
the want
came later.
