Peter sat at his desk. Sitting was what Peter was meant to be doing at 3.37pm on a Monday. In addition to sitting, Peter was also meant to be adding and subtracting, and then typing up the results on his Olympia typewriter, but the rhythmic tak was muted from his side of the cavernous office. This was partly because the black-keyed machine perched on Peter's desk had jammed the 7 and 8 rods, and partly because Peter couldn’t be bothered knocking them back into place again.
1Story is a large QR code sculpture made from thousands of recycled keyboard keys and was presented during the 2013 Sustainable Living Festival in the Fracture Gallery at Federation Square. Once the sculpture was scanned with any mobile device, a narrated short story could be experienced, set in the same space but at a different time, back when Federation Square was the Gas and Fuel Building.
